Privacy Policy — Site Web Metrics
Effective date: September 28, 2026
Site Web Metrics ("we", "us") operates the Chrome extension Site Web Metrics — Domain Insight Panel and the website webmetricsview.cfd. This policy explains what information the extension processes, how we use and store it, and when it is shared. It applies to users worldwide.
Single purpose: Open the current tab to review audience estimates, rank snapshots, and a short on-page audit. We do not operate a user account or registration system inside the extension for normal use.
1. Information we collect
When you use the extension, the following data may be processed on your device or sent from your browser as needed to provide features:
- Active tab context: URL and hostname of the tab you choose to analyze (for example when you open the extension popup).
- On-page audit data: Public page metadata read from that tab only when you request an audit—such as document title, meta description, Open Graph tags, heading counts, link counts (internal/external), and image alt coverage. We do not collect passwords, form field values, or payment card data.
- Network observation (load panel): Request counts, transferred bytes, and resource types observed for the active tab through the extension's declared permissions, to show a load summary. We do not intentionally log full request bodies or cookies.
- Domain metrics lookups: The hostname you are viewing (normalized, e.g. without a leading "www.") when the extension requests third-party domain statistics.
- Local preferences and history: A short list of recently viewed hostnames and cached metric responses stored in Chrome local storage (see Section 3).
We do not ask for your name, email address, or phone number to use the extension. If you email support voluntarily, we receive only what you include in that message.
2. How we use information (handling)
We use the information above solely to:
- Display domain traffic estimates, rank snapshots, referral mix, and related panels in the extension UI.
- Run the on-page SEO / structure audit and load statistics for the tab you are viewing.
- Cache metric responses locally for a short time to reduce repeated network calls and improve responsiveness.
- Remember a limited list of recently analyzed hostnames for your convenience in the popup.
- Respond to support requests if you contact us.
We do not use extension data for unrelated advertising profiles, credit decisions, or selling personal information.
3. How we store information (storage)
- Where: Cached metric JSON, timestamps, and the recent-hostname list are stored in
chrome.storage.localon your computer. They are not uploaded to our own backend servers because we do not operate a login server for this product. - Retention: Metric cache entries expire after approximately nine (9) minutes, after which the extension may fetch fresh data on your next request. The recent-hostname list is capped (under one hundred entries) and can be cleared by removing extension data in Chrome settings or uninstalling the extension.
- Security: Data in local storage is protected by your operating system and Chrome profile. No storage method is 100% secure; keep your device and Chrome profile access controlled.
4. How we share information (sharing and disclosure)
We do not sell your personal information. We share or disclose data only as described below:
- Similarweb (third-party metrics API): When you view host metrics, the extension sends an
HTTPS request to
data.similarweb.comwith the domain name you are researching. Similarweb's processing is governed by their privacy policy. The request may include standard browser headers; we do not send your name or email in that call. - Flag CDN (UI only): Country flags in the popup may load small images from
flagcdn.combased on country codes shown in metric data—not your personal identity. - Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
We do not share on-page audit contents with third parties except as needed for the metrics and flag services above.
5. Chrome permissions
The extension requests permissions to perform its stated purpose. In plain language:
- storage — save cache and recent hostnames locally.
- activeTab, tabs, scripting — read the page you are viewing and inject a short audit script when you use the panel.
- webRequest — observe network activity for load statistics on the active tab.
- Host access (<all_urls>) — allow the content helper and audits on normal http(s) pages you choose to analyze. The extension does not change page content for unrelated sites beyond what is needed for metrics and audits when you interact with the extension.
6. Your choices and rights
- You can stop all collection by uninstalling the extension from
chrome://extensions. - You can clear stored data via Chrome → Extension details → Clear storage / Remove.
- Depending on your region (for example EEA, UK, California), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information. Because we do not operate accounts, most data exists only on your device; contact us and we will help where we hold any support correspondence.
7. Children's privacy
The extension is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. International users
If you use the extension outside your home country, your data may be processed on your device and by third-party services (such as Similarweb) in jurisdictions where their servers operate.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version at https://webmetricsview.cfd/privacy-policy.html and update the effective date above. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
